On November 8, 2019, a total of 30 students of the GMBA Program were invited to visit the Asia-Pacific Center of ViewSonic based in New Taipei City, Taiwan.

Upon entering the company, the students felt a strong welcoming atmosphere because each visitor’s name was displayed on a wall screen at the entrance. To capture this scene, some students approached the screen to take pictures with their own names.

Afterwards, the students were split into two groups, one guided to visit the various offices in the company while the other introduced to its products. The work environment was comfortable and thought out thoroughly. In particular, the beautiful pieces of artwork on the wall drew everyone’s attention. The students were told that these artworks are collected by the company’s art-loving CEO James Chu (朱家良) from all over the world. The CEO likes to share the fine art with employees in hopes that the art could not only embellish the environment but also help motivate and inspire the staff to be innovative in their work. This was a great demonstration of bringing the humanities and corporate governance together. Our students were inspired by this example.

After the tours, the students were ushered into a conference room for a company introduction presented by the marketing manager. The introduction covered ViewSonic’s corporate culture, course of development, global strategy, and deployment. The manager explained that ViewSonic mainly manufactured hardware products such as monitors at the early stage. More recently, it began offering software solutions on the basis of its various products and services. The company also cooperated with global brands, such as Google and Harman (part of the Samsung Group), for product development, launch, and marketing. With the information provided, the students raised a variety of questions concerning business administration in such aspects as branding, strategy, and operation. Impressed by the students, the company shared job vacancies with them in order to attract international talents.

At last, a certificate of appreciation was presented by Kai Shang (尚德凱), President of GMBA Student Council, to ViewSonic CEO, Mr. James Chu, to thank him for his support to NTU GMBA. All the participants then took a group photo happily to conclude this event.
