NTU and ITRI Collaborate in R&D, Patents, & Talent Development

NTU and the Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI) held a cooperation exchange meeting on April 6, announcing their expanded collaboration in cross-disciplinary R&D, intellectual property, talent recruitment, and focusing on the research of successful aging, circular economy and net-zero emissions, and electronic and communication-related applications. Through this collaboration, NTU and ITRI aim to accelerate R&D, drive industrialization, and enhance industrial competitiveness.
NTU President Wen-Chang Chen (陳文章) stated that facing global competition in technology and talent, domestic academic and research institutions need to integrate resources to enhance competitiveness. NTU has the advantages of diverse fields, international links, and outstanding research. In addition to cultivating talent, NTU will strengthen its top-notch research and industry-academia collaboration, promote international and cross-disciplinary research team cooperation, and construct NTU as an international talent base. NTU will actively recruit outstanding overseas talent, promote relevant international internship programs, and link global talent. Furthermore, NTU has set the goal of reaching carbon neutrality by 50% on its centennial in 2028, and the ultimate goal of carbon neutrality by 2048, fulfilling its social responsibility as a university.
ITRI’s President Edwin Liu (劉文雄) emphasized that R&D, patents, and talent are crucial elements for innovation. In terms of R&D, ITRI has established a technology strategy and blueprint for 2030 to develop the necessary technologies for the future, while NTU has excellent faculty and abundant academic research resources, which can enhance the speed and breadth of R&D. In terms of patents, ITRI will collaborate with NTU to promote the application of intellectual property rights and technology, strengthen the commercialization of technological innovation, and expand internationally. Moreover, ITRI and NTU will work together to recruit and employ international talents, utilizing the resources of both parties to increase the breadth, flexibility, and incentives for attracting international elites to serve in Taiwan and create greater R&D value.
NTU and ITRI have been long-term partners and jointly established Nanotechnology Research Center in 2002 and from which more than 50 research achievements were developed. The expanded cooperation will lay a foundation for Taiwan’s next stage of challenges. In the future, NTU and ITRI will jointly develop green carbon reduction technology and smart medical technology to help Taiwan’s society move towards successful aging and a sustainable future of net-zero emissions.
