NTU achieves a historic high ranking of 54th in 2027 QS World University Rankings.

The 2027 QS World University Rankings were announced on June 18, 2026 (Taipei time). National Taiwan University (NTU) ranked 54th, marking its best performance in history and advancing 9 spots from its 63rd place ranking in the previous year. Despite the number of universities evaluated by QS increasing from 8,467 last year to 8,808 this year, NTU's ranking still managed to improve in this highly competitive international higher education landscape.

NTU’s progress in the 2027 QS World University Rankings is reflected in several key areas: academic performance (citation impact), internationalization (international student counts and diversity), graduate employability and impact, and sustainability.

First, regarding academic performance, NTU has continued to elevate its research citation impact. In recent years, it has consistently cultivated forward-looking innovations and research on critical issues, encouraging interdisciplinary and international team collaborations to enhance overall research capacity, contribution, and influence. In the previously announced 2026 QS World University Rankings by Subject, NTU ranked within the global top 100 in all five broad subject areas, showing clear trend of improvement. Seven subjects ranked within the global top 50, and for the first time, NTU has a subject reaching the global top 10 (Classics and Ancient History, 6th worldwide).

Second, NTU has made significant progress in internationalization metrics, such as international student count and diversity. The University's active internationalization measures is yielding robust results: deepening cooperation with key sister universities, strengthening participation in international higher education and academic organizations, establishing joint international research centers and laboratories, assisting the Ministry of Education in promoting university alliances; meanwhile, NTU has collaborated with Academia Sinica and other top universities to implement the "Taiwan Bridges Program" (inviting Nobel Laureates to Taiwan). Concurrently, NTU has promoted various talent mobility initiatives—such as the International Mentorship Program, the Overseas Internship Program, iNGO Academy, and the NTU Beyond Borders overseas learning initiative—to foster global collaboration and attract top-tier international talent.

Furthermore, regarding graduate employability and impact, NTU once again achieved a perfect score of 100 in the Employment Outcomes indicator. This metric encompasses employment rates and alumni impact (such as the number of alumni featured in prominent lists like the Forbes 30 Under 30), demonstrating that the employability and societal contributions of NTU graduates. In recent years, NTU has partnered with enterprises to jointly cultivate future talent by launching initiatives like the Interdisciplinary Career Immersion - Mentorship Program and the Internship with Chairpersons Program, through which companies provide cross-disciplinary internship vacancies and invite corporate executives to serve as mentors, equipping students with workplace readiness. In 2026, NTU also launched its first Student Exploratory Learning Program on Overseas Entrepreneurship, selecting highly motivated and high-potential students to study in major innovation hubs such as Silicon Valley during the summer. In 2025, NTU's "Empowering Future Talent Program" won the Bronze Award for "Best Competencies and Skill Development" at the Brandon Hall Group HCM Excellence Awards. In addition, NTU continued to improve in the Sustainability indicator, securing a high score of over 90, ranking 1st in Taiwan and 4th in Asia.

NTU President Wen-Chang Chen stated that while the University is delivering steady growth in academic performance and internationalization, it will humbly refer to all ranking metrics and strive for continuous improvement. NTU will maintain its ongoing efforts to recruit international talent and faculty, as well as enhance the diversity of its international cooperation networks and strengthen global academic connections. The University will also continue to fulfill its social responsibility by cultivating the talent needed by the nation and society, bringing about impactful knowledge and research. Furthermore, NTU expresses its deep gratitude for the various fundings from the Ministry of Education’s Higher Education Sprout Project, government sectors, and industry partners, all of which have played key roles in its advancement.
