On September 25, at the invitation of Kyushu University—a close partner of NTU—President Wen-Chang Chen (陳文章) attended its first-semester graduation ceremony to deliver a commencement speech. President Chen also took this visit to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Kyushu University, which will enable cooperation between both institutions in areas including semiconductors, dual degree programs in science and engineering, sustainability, and agriculture.
In his speech, President Chen expressed that with COVID-19 subsiding and the resumption of global activities, graduates could now enjoy this special day in life in its proper form. He wholeheartedly wished all Kyushu graduates to achieve the milestones they set out for themselves and bravely become the leading elites in their chosen profession. President Chen concluded his speech with a farewell message, “As you embark on a brand-new leg of your life’s journey and chase your dream, you must constantly remind yourself to maintain a positive attitude, express profound gratitude, and genuinely practice altruism.”
Following the graduation ceremony, President Chen went on to sign the MOU on further cooperation with Kyushu University on behalf of NTU. With the executives of Kyushu visiting NTU in the coming months, we can expect the collaboration in semiconductors, dual degree programs, sustainability, and agriculture to soon materialize, alongside initiatives on D-School, summer exchange programs, and general education. Furthermore, as Kyushu University is a partner of the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign (UIUC) and the UIUC President is scheduled to visit NTU in March 2024, the leadership of all three universities will have a chance to join together at NTU, paving the way for a potential three-way cooperation.
