Prof. Wei-Hsun Yang, a Distinguished Professor at NTU’s Department of Medicine and Dean of the Medical Research Department at NTU Hospital, was recently awarded the 2024 MOE Excellent Teacher Award. Prof. Yang has pioneered numerous courses for the College of Medicine and improved the content and systems of its graduate education. He has also enhanced the research environment and system for students of the Medical Research Department, enabling them to apply their knowledge in research. His dedication to teaching is evident by his reception of Outstanding Teaching Award eight times and Distinguished Teaching Award twice. Following extensive deliberations among the 45 voting deans and directors, the application from NTU’s College of Public Health for membership of the Association of Schools of Public Health in the European Region (ASPHER) was unanimously approved on June 5, 2024. The College of Public Health has thus become a rare non-EU ASPHER associate member and the only academic entity in Asia that holds membership of both ASPPH and ASPHER.... more

NTU successfully hosted the 25th Annual International Conference on Digital Government Research (dg.o 2024) from June 11 to 14, 2024. The university secured the hosting rights for the conference three years ago. This year's conference attracted 160 international participants from 34 countries and regions. On July 4th, Academia Sinica (AS) announced the newly elected 34th academicians. Among the honored are three NTU faculty members. NTU held a gift ceremony on June 28 to announce the donation from Liberty Stationery Corp. for the renovation of the “New Moon Pavilion” on the main campus, where a new souvenir shop will be opened. In the face of energy challenges, the world relies on batteries as power storage, especially lithium-ion batteries (LIBs), which are both cost-effective and portable. However, despite the significant progress made in LIB technology, there is still a pressing demand for higher energy and power densities and improved safety features to make LIBs more practical for future transportation systems and large-scale grid power storage. One way to enhance the energy density of a LIB is by incorporating a Li metal anode (LMA), which is considered the ideal choice due to its exceptional properties such as high specific capacity (3861 mA h g–1) and low anode potential (approximately –3.04 V vs SHE). The use of LMA is hindered by significant issues such as the growth of Li dendrites, low Coulombic efficiency, poor cycle life, and safety concerns when organic liquid electrolytes are employed... more

At the beginning of the Year of the Dragon, National Taiwan University (NTU) held its 2024 Lunar New Year Gathering on February 16th. The event featured a special performance by “Nanbeishuan” (南北軒), a century-old traditional beiguan performance group based in Tamsui. On December 7 and 8, 2023, National Taiwan University (NTU) and its strategic partner, the University of Tokyo (UTokyo), held the NTU-UTokyo Joint Conference.
